Anyhow here is what his stats and research indicate offers a bit of value for today.

Win Double   Forest and Norwich   23/20   Tote   1pt  -

Forest have 7 wins and 2 draws from their 9 games at home to bottom half teams plus
Preston have a number of injuries that will deplete them tonight and they have not
kept a clean sheet against a top half side away. In the game at Norwich,
Doncaster have multiple injuries and have only taken 2 points from 8 away
games against top half teams and they have also failed to keep a clean sheet away to a top half team.

Bournemouth v Sheffield Wednesday   Over 2.5 goals   10/11   William Hill   1pt  -

Bournemouth have a home record of 10-6 for Overs and Wednesday have an
away record of 9-6 for Overs, which relates to 4/6, so 10/11 does give value.
Also Bournemouth home games to bottom half teams are averaging 3.3 goals
and Wednesday away games to top half teams are averaging 3.4 goals.

1pt Aston Villa to beat Newcastle in the Premiership, 7/5 Bet365, Coral  (Sunday 24th May 4pm ko)

If Newcastle do not take at least a point away from Villa Park on Sunday, they will be relegated.
It is a game they cannot afford to lose.
However, as is so often the case at this time of year, the prices have moved far too much and
do not accurately reflect the true chances of each outcome.
Consequently, there is value to be had in backing the home team.

Villa’s form in the second half of the season has been terrible.
They were six points ahead of Arsenal in fourth place back in March but now lie ten
points behind them in sixth. They have also won just one of their last five matches. However,
Aston Villa still have more than enough quality to beat a very poor Newcastle side.
Had this game been played six weeks ago then Villa would be long odds on and 7/5 about a
home win is a very big price. Although Villa have little to play for, they will still want to win their
final home game and can still finish fifth above Everton, which would represent progress on last season.

Newcastle have won just twice on the road all season and have scored just two goals in their last five away games.
They have wasted chances to pull clear of the drop zone at home to Portsmouth and Fulham recently
and this is a far harder task. Newcastle’s record against top half opposition has also been dreadful this season.
In nineteen fixtures they have won just twice and both of those were home games.

The Geordies are missing several important players for this fixture too.
The absence of full backs Beye and Enrique will be especially difficult to deal with as
they have no natural replacements. Beye in particular has been an important player for
Newcastle and they have won just one of twenty four fixtures without him.
There is a twenty five point gap between these two sides in the table and just because
Newcastle need the points more than Villa do, does not justify a price of 7/5 about a home win.

Minimum price to take – 11/10

Everton v Bolton

Everton and Bolton

1pt draw between Everton and Bolton in the Premiership, 13/5 Betfred, PaddyPower and Skybet (Saturday 7th February 3pm ko)

Everton have had an extremely tough couple of weeks. Their last five matches have all been against “big four” sides and all have been played in less than a three week period. Wednesday night’s cup replay against Liverpool lasted 120 minutes and would have taken a hell of a lot out of them. Everton’s game plan is based on hard work and they often take a very physical approach. After such a tough run of games I think they are going to be very tired on Saturday and considering Bolton are also a very physical side, I think Everton could be out muscled. The Toffees have a small squad and the same players have played in nearly every game. Fellani and Pienaar both picked up knocks on Wednesday and are doubtful. If they don’t make it the alternatives are teenagers Gosling and Rodwell or Andy Van Der Meyde who has hardly played in two seasons. They will have one new face in the squad as Jo was signed in the transfer window. However, he has hardly played in months himself and is severely lacking match fitness.

Everton have drawn five of their twelve home games this season and have won just three times at Goodison in the league. I expect Bolton to adopt quite a defensive approach and think Everton will struggle to break them down. Tim Cahill is likely to have to play up front on his own as Yakubu, Vaughan and Saha remain out injured, whilst Anichebe has been frozen out after a training ground bust up with David Moyes. Although Everton are always a threat from set plays, I think they are going to struggle to score from open play and could tire dramatically in the closing stages.

Bolton’s recent form has been encouraging. Narrow defeats to Arsenal and Man Utd, both of which were to late goals, were followed by a draw away at Blackburn and victory over Tottenham last week. They are not one of the better sides technically, but they will be difficult to break down and will fight for every ball, not the sort of side Everton want to be playing after such a gruelling few weeks. The reverse fixture at the Reebok stadium earlier this season was decided by an injury time Everton winner and I expect another tight game tomorrow. The draw is a big runner.

Minimum price to take – 9/4

1pt Double, Over 2.5 goals between Sporting Gijon and Atletico Madrid and Over 2.5 goals between Barcelona and Valencia, 17/20 and 67/100 Centrebet or 4/5 and 4/7 PaddyPower (Saturday 6th December 7pm and 9pm ko’s)

I am expecting goals in Spain on Saturday night and the prices for these two games don’t look short enough. Newly promoted Sporting Gijon’s home games are averaging 3.5 goals per game. Whilst they have improved in recent weeks, they have conceded heavily to the top attacking sides in La Liga. They let four in against Sevilla, Barca stuck six past them and Real Madrid netted seven times! Five of their six home games have featured three goals or more so far. In Atletico Madrid, they face a team that has scored four goals in one match six times in all competitions already. Atletico’s away games are averaging 3.8 goals per game. Atletico are likely to see this as a good opportunity to take all three points and close the gap on the top sides, who all play each other this weekend. 17/20 is far too big. You may think that 67/100 looks a little short for the Barca game? But when you look at the stats, it is not short enough. Barcelona are the highest scoring team in Europe at the moment and are averaging three goals per game! Their home games are averaging 4.5 goals per game! Since the start of last season, seventeen out of Barcelona’s twenty five home games have witnessed three goals or more (68% = just under 4/9). Four of Barcelona’s six home games this season have featured three or more goals. The two that didn’t had one big factor in common, Leo Messi didn’t start. Messi is, in my opinion, the best player on the planet at the moment, not only does he score goals but he creates loads of chances for team mates too. He is a major factor in Barcelona’s huge goals tally this season. Valencia games are averaging 3.2 goals per game this season, but admittedly, there tend to be more goals when they are at home. However, in their last six matches against Barcelona and Real Madrid, five have featured three goals or more. In David Villa they have a real goal threat themselves and he particularly enjoys playing at the Nou camp. He has scored in five of his last six visits. Barcelona won this fixture 6-0 last season and more goals are expected on Saturday evening.

Minimum prices to take – 4/6 and 1/2

1pt Sunderland to beat Bolton in the Premiership, 11/8 Coral or 13/10 Betfred, Blue Square, Ladbrokes and Tote (Saturday 29th November 3pm ko)

A price of 11/8 about Sunderland beating Bolton is an example of a bookmaker overreacting to a short term trend. It suggests that there is nothing between the two sides without home advantage and maybe even that Bolton are the better team. Sunderland are on a poor run of form, whilst Bolton have picked up a bit lately, but only two points separate the teams in the table. Sunderland are one place above the relegation zone but the league is so tight that a couple of wins would see them challenging for a Uefa cup spot. In my opinion, Sunderland have much better players and a better manager than Bolton. The likes of Cisse, Diouf, Kenwynne Jones, Malbranque, Richardson, Ferdinand and Craig Gordon, would walk into Gary Megson’s team. Sunderland have lost their last three home games but all teams have a bad run at some point in the season and I cant see it lasting much longer, especially with Bolton as the visitors tomorrow. Sunderland’s home form under Roy Keane has been very good in general and they just need a little bit of luck to go their way. They had eighteen attempts on goal against West Ham last week and were unlucky to take nothing from the game. Bolton are not a side I rate highly at all. I think Sunderland are a little bit of value to mark Keane’s 100th game in charge, by repeating last seasons feat of taking all three points from this fixture.

Minimum price to take – 11/10
